1.Introduction
Applied Geology & Geochemistry Lab is conducting experiment and field survey about energy resources that metallic or nonmetallic mineral resources and petroleum resources etc. Also we study on geochemical exploration technique for the exploration and investigation of the underground resources.
2. Research Areas
Petrology, Mineralogy, Petroleum Geology, Economic and Environmental Geology, Experimental Geochemistry
3. Research Activities (2012 ~ Present)
○ Mineral and Petroleum Resources
The research in this area involves the investigation and evaluation of various mineral and petroleum resources, such as rare earth minerals (Hongcheon-Jaeun, Uljin), hydrocarbon potentiality (Caspian, Tibet), and bitumen carbonate (Canada).
○ Rocks and Minerals
The research in this area involves an understanding of the origin and geological processes of rocks and minerals from domestic and foreign places, such as mantle rocks from South Korea, Norway, Japan, USA, mt. Baekdu. as well as continental and oceanic crust rocks from South Korea, Antarctic, China and volcanic rock from mt. Mudeung in Gwangju, Sangumburi in Jeju, etc.
○ Analytical techniques
We develop analytical techniques for in-situ trace element and isotope analyses of rocks and minerals. The improved analytical techniques will give precious determination of our research materials. These techniques include non-traditional isotope analysis, in-situ laser ablation ICP-MS analysis, melting system for small amount of mineral and rock powers. We applied these techniques to mineral, rock, nail, gemstone, etc.
